30 adult clinic dental patients were chosen for an EFT intervention upons reporting dental anxiety and after scoring a 6 or more on a 0-10 SUD scale. Each was given a brief 4 minute EFT explanation and a 6 minute EFT treatment. Pre and post SUD scores were taken. Results showed an average SUD decrease of 5 points with 83% experiencing a decrease of at least 4 points.
Study authors report that the results support the potential of EFT as an effective treatment for a range of psychological and physical disorders. As an average of just over 5 sessions were required, it is possible that EFT may also be very cost effective.
This study was meant to explore the possibility that additional psychological issues often come into play when there is addiction and was used to see the effects of EFT on 39 participants who self-reported having addiction problems at an addiction focused EFT workshop in 2008.
52 third year university students were given a public presentation assignment known to generate anxiety. They then received a 15 minute introductory lesson on EFT and were led in a single round of tapping, with a focus on public speaking anxiety and were then instructed that they could use EFT on their own. SUDs (Subjective Units of Distress) and HADs (Hospital Anxiety and Depression) Scales were used pre and post. 46 students completed the study with results showing a statistically significant decrease in anxiety, with no significant decrease in depression.
Presentation anxiety is one of the most common fears that people express. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which is also known as tapping is an emerging complementary therapy that has been used to treat a variety of phobias.
A UK biology/psychology degree graduate of Liverpool John Moores U. wrote this research paper as his undergraduate dissertation for his undergraduate degree. He apparently wanted to explore which aspects of an EFT session were and were not actively involved in the results and create a study to help explore and or eliminate whether it was merely a placebo effect. Some say that perhaps the positive effects of a tapping session when performed with a practitioner are as a result of the connected, therapeutic time spent together.
