Follow Up to the Passing of Candace Pert

Link to NY Times Obituary.

It is with great sadness that the Family of Candace Pert announces her death on September 12, 2013, suddenly and unexpectedly while at her home in Maryland. The cause was apparent cardiovascular arrest, said her sister, Deane Beebe. Candace’s warmth and compassion, her laughter, authenticity, just the way she could light up a room and touch all in it will be forever missed, but forever remembered by anyone who had the fortune to meet her in person or read her books. She was able to take her scientific research and make it readily understandable to non-scientists. She taught us about the BodyMind, and she taught us spiritual and emotional paths to healing. She welcomed all spiritual practice into her life, and she loved all people.

Many knew that Candace had dedicated herself to creating new drugs for serious illnesses, she was after all first trained as a Pharmacologist. Over twenty-five years ago Candace had an inspiration, or a vision as it is described in her first book, for how to make a drug for HIV/AIDS that at the time was not controlled and destroying the lives of many. She has spent the last 28 years pursuing this non-toxic treatment and a vaccine.

In Memoriam

It is with deep sadness and shock that I share my feelings of grief at the recent and very sudden death of Dr. Candace Pert. My deep condolences go out to her husband Michael Ruff, her children and extended family. I spoke with her briefly only days before her passing so the reality of her passing still has me reeling. Our relationship was a relatively new one. Only two months ago did I have the rare and great privilege of interviewing her on my Transformational Dialogue Radio show. We ended up speaking for hours before and after the show and somehow and serendipitously seemed to develop a quick and deep friendship connection, so it is as if a rug just was pulled out from beneath me upon hearing the news.

The time of our conversation that was recorded was an example not only of her brilliance, but also of her humor, her playfulness, her compassion, her deep dedication to healing and her expansiveness of understanding with regards to the relationship of mind and body and spirit. I offer this recent recording as a recent glimpse into the amazing and beautiful person that Candace Pert was and will continue to be in spirit and in our hearts.

With Deep Sadness and Deep Gratitude,

Craig Weiner
